Introduction to the Computer and Word Processing covers the basics of using Word 2007, entering and formatting text, saving, opening and printing files, tables, pictures, borders, spell check and file management.

Introduction to the Internet covers computer fundamentals, searching the Internet, creating an email account, attachments, sending and receiving emails, managing contacts, resizing and manipulating photographs and more.

Numeracy & Literacy

Learning to read and write

Wednesday 9:30 am - 3:30pm

Numeracy and Literacy is funded through a grant from ACE.

Adult Literacy and Numeracy is co-ordinated by a qualified teacher, supported by volunteer tutors who work one on one with students.

This program is for people with intellectual disabilities or with acquired brain injuries.

English as a Second Language is a program to help people who migrated to this region. This is co-ordinated by a qualified teacher who is supported by volunteer tutors who work one on one with students, to help them to improve their spoken and written English.

Adult Literacy

Literacy & Numeracy classes for people aged 18 years and older who wish to improve reading and writing skills.

Wednesday 10:00am - 12:00 noon - Literacy & Numeracy

Literacy for Life is an adult literacy class for people who have missed out on their schooling and need to improve their reading, writing and numeracy. These classes are free to students through a grant from Adult Community Education (ACE).

Literacy and Numeracy (N&L) (Wed 10:00am - 12:00 noon) is for adults with an intellectual disability or acquired brain injury. The aim is to enable the students to have functional literacy as they interact in the community; reading signs, posters, shopping, etc.

Plant Nursery

Propagation of plants for sale in the shop and General gardening maintenance of the grounds.

User Groups: Volunteers/Participants

Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm

The Plant Nursery volunteers propagate plants for sale, including natives, succulents, herbs, vegetable seedlings, groundcovers, small bushes and trees.

Volunteers also maintain the grounds around our building.

There is also a Community Garden, where plots can be hired by the general public at a minimal cost, to grow vegetables, flowers, etc.

Wood Workshop

Production of Wooden Toys & Furniture for sale in the shop and external businesses.

User Group: Volunteers/Participants

Monday to Thursday 8:00am to 4:00pm

Workshop volunteers produce quality wooden toys and small furniture items using our wide range of woodwork machinery.

A paid Woodwork Supervisor provides oversight and training.

Paintshop volunteers use water based paint and speed clear to provide durable non-toxic finish to the products.

The products are sold through our shops to help fund programs for people with disability.

Pelicans

The Pelican AKtion Club is a service club for people with an intellectual disability.

User Group: Participants

Monday 4:00pm - 9:00pm

The club members do some voluntary work in the community and also participate in recreational activities including barbecues, picnics, game nights, dinners, movie nights, etc.

These present opportunities for development of independent living skills and social interaction.

 

Fishing

Social Fishing group for men only

User Group: Participants

Tuesday 9:00am - 3:00pm

"Fishing" is a day program for men, where three or four volunteers take participants to various fishing spots in the area. The main focus is on social interaction, morning tea, picnic lunch and occasionally catching some fish.

South Talk

A discussion group which provides Social Interaction.

User Group: Volunteers

Friday 10:00am - 12:00 noon

The sessions often begins with a presentation from a guest speaker about topical issues, current affairs or local events.

Questions and further discussion follows.

Ocean Encounter

"Ocean Encounter" is a social program for people with disabilities who are registered with Disability Services

Wednesday 9:30am - 3:00pm

Thursday 9:30am - 3:00pm

Friday 9:30am - 3:00pm

This program is run by Disability Services.

The focus is on recreation, art/craft, social activities, sport, life skills, outings and social interaction, including movies, sports, various crafts and games. Trips include the Zoo and Royal Show. The program runs all year round except for 2-3 weeks break at Christmas.

Learning Wheel Thrown Pottery, Hand Building & Sculpture

Friday 10:00am - 12:00 noon. By using various methods of construction, participants can experience a variety of techniques using clay.

Plaques, pots and some sculpture are then finished with glaze or paint.

Saturday 10:00am - 12:00 noon. Members of the general public can learn how to work with clay.

Craft

Craft Groups: Making Cards & Pottery

Cards and Crafts: Monday 10:00am - 12:00 noon

Pottery: Saturday 9:30am to 2:00pm (approx)

Monday Craft Ladies are a group of volunteers who gather each Monday to make cards as well as other craft for sale in the shop. Volunteers welcome.

Saturday Pottery is for those who want to learn pottery, use a potters wheel, Kiln firing, hand building and socialising. Cost is $2.00 plus materials and firing.
